review: green hour:“WIE SCHMECKT DIE ZUKUNFT? ÜBER DAS AUSSTELLEN ÖKOLOGISCHER DEBATTEN IM MUSEUM” (DR. ISABEL GRESCHAT)

Who was the first human to ever see yeast bacteria under the microscope? And why is yeast crucial for food consumption? The Museum für Brot und Kunst – Forum Welternährung Questions seeks to answer such questions in inspiring ways. The director of the museum, Dr. Isabel Greschat, took her audience on an online tour through the “Salzstadl” in Ulm, which is where the museum is located. The topics raised in the museum are often complex and complicated (e.g.e “how can we nourish approximately 10 billion people in the future?”). Greschat and her team try to find new ways of representing such issues by allowing for sensual experiences rather than merely showing dry facts in the form of maps, curves, and numbers. And this is where the many artworks displayed come in: the Museum für Brot und Kunst houses a huge collection of old and recent paintings, photographs, and sculpture, and visitors will be surprised to find out how our daily crops drive these artefacts, and the topics they discuss, in many different ways!
