IDK-ECO: Sustainability
Eco-Friendly Web Hosting
We rely on hosting services and servers that are powered entirely by green electricity from renewable energy sources and run on the company’s own environmentally friendly and energy-efficient server systems. The energy consumed in this process is 100% carbon-neutral. As a result, the use of internet and web hosting services causes no environmental impact and contributes to the sustainable use of natural resources. In addition, we hold a ‘Green Account’ with an ethical and eco-friendly bank, through which we actively invest in renewable energy.
Catering: Regional and Vegan
Since 2022, the IDK has been working with a catering partner based in Augsburg. When selecting its suppliers, this partner places great emphasis on regional sourcing and socio-ecological sustainability. The menu is entirely vegan and organic. The food is delivered in reusable containers, with plastic being avoided in almost all areas.
Reusable Packaging and Containers
To mark the international IDK conference ‘Ambivalences of Ecological Transformation’, lunch was served as a communal picnic using sustainable, climate-friendly reusable containers. All participants were given attractive ‘to-go’ containers, which significantly reduced the resource consumption typically associated with catering services.
Prioritizing Regional, Vegetarian, and Fair-Trade Products
As a further step towards sustainability, the IDK consistently uses regional, organic-quality products at its events. We offer exclusively vegetarian and often even vegan food to promote resource-efficient and ethically responsible consumption. Furthermore, we use only organic Fairtrade coffee to ensure that our drinks have a positive impact on the environment and the community. Through our conscious choice of food and drink, we demonstrate that scientific commitment and transformative action go hand in hand.
Purchase of a Portable Coffee Machine for Events
The IDK has purchased a large-capacity mobile coffee machine at its own expense. This initiative enables us to do without external caterers at events. By avoiding the use of catering services, we not only reduce transport distances but also cut costs. This initiative is a further step towards more sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.
