Technology as a strategy of the human? – ‚Philosophy & Technology’ publishes the first paper of Maximilian Pieper’s dissertation
On January 9th, the first paper by IDK PhD student Maximilian Pieper, “Technology as a Strategy of the Human?,” was published in the renowned international journal Philosophy & Technology.
In this paper, Maximilian problematizes the use of a popularized version of the Anthropocene narrative to frame technology as a strategy of “humanity.” This narrative, he argues, ignores the fact that modern technologies can be regarded as manifestations of global inequalities. This calls into question the uniform category of humanity.
Maximilian looks at the topic through a Philosophy and Sociology of Technology lens. His analysis relies on a comparison between the so-called “extension concept” and the “fetish concept” of technology.
