Environmental History

I am heading a collaborative research project on the history of sustainabilities, funded by the Leibniz association. We explore how shades of meaning and conflicting interests shaping sustainability discourses and practices have changed over time and seek to explain why the concept became so influential in politics, social movements and the economy at the local, national and global level. Furthermore, I am working on the history of thinking about, predicting and shaping futures. I am about to publish a volume dealing with the history of communicating futures in political parties and social movements throughout the 20th century.
