Jens Soentgen

My work is interdisciplinary and always focused on environmental topics. I am interested in the world of substances, materials and objects, trying to combine methods from the humanities with insights from the sciences, thereby also contributing to bridge the gap between the ‘two cultures’ in academia. I have worked on narratives of substances, especially CO2, dust, explosives, and have contributed to defining the substance histories approach in order to develop it further to a working method that can be learned and taught. I only just finished a study on fire and I am currently working on a philosophy of water.
